Under the Slogan: “Technical Research is the Gateway to Solutions for a Better Future”

Under the auspices of His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, the 18th International Scientific Conference of Middle Euphrates Technical University and the 4th Conference of Samawa Technical Institute for Engineering and Applied Sciences was launched in partnership with Linköping University (Sweden) and Sumy State University (Ukraine). The conference aims to bridge scientific communication and enhance research and educational capabilities in line with global advancements. The event was hosted at Samawa Technical Institute, where attendees were welcomed by the Dean of the Institute, Prof. Dr. Sabah Mohammed Al-Matouki, and senior staff.

The conference seeks to facilitate the exchange of expertise among participating universities and strengthen capabilities in engineering and applied sciences. Attendees included:

• Prof. Dr. Hassan Latif Al-Zubaidi, University President and representative of the Minister.
• Mr. Ahmed Mohsen Drayyel, Chairman of Muthanna Governorate Council.
• Mr. Ihsan Abu Jablah, Member of the Governorate Council.
• Mr. Mohammed Gharyoud and Mr. Falah Al-Mousawi from the Scholarships and Cultural Relations Department.
• Mr. Sami Saheb, Deputy Governor for Administrative Affairs.
• Heads of governmental, civil, and international organizations, along with university vice presidents, deans, directors, researchers, and specialists.

The conference commenced with a recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by the Iraqi national anthem.

Opening Speech by Prof. Dr. Hassan Latif Al-Zubaidi

In his address, Al-Zubaidi emphasized that the conference provides a valuable opportunity for researchers and experts to exchange ideas and experiences related to the conference’s themes. He highlighted:

• Gratitude to HE Minister Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi for his patronage and continuous support for scientific research and academic institutions.
• The conference’s role in gathering elite researchers and specialists from around the world.
• Pride in Middle Euphrates Technical University, which spans five Iraqi governorates (Najaf, Babylon, Al-Qadisiyah, Karbala, and Muthanna) and has recently established the College of Petroleum and Energy Engineering and is preparing to launch Iraq’s first Institute of Nanotechnology and a teaching hospital in Najaf.
• Appreciation for the organizing committees whose efforts ensured the conference’s success.

He further noted:

• The conference received over 700 research submissions, with 382 accepted and 108 preliminarily approved from 15 countries, including the USA, France, UK, Canada, Malaysia, Turkey, Egypt, Iran, Lebanon, and Jordan, reflecting growing confidence in Iraqi academic institutions.
• The event aims to foster knowledge exchange, scientific cooperation, and sustainable development solutions for global challenges.

Speech by the Dean of Samawa Technical Institute

The Dean welcomed participants, emphasizing the conference’s historic significance as:

• The first in terms of international participation (15 countries).
• The first to receive 700 research papers across diverse themes.
• The first with over 3,000 evaluators.
• The first fully paperless conference, promoting sustainability.
• The first endorsed by four global publishers (Taylor & Francis, Springer, OICC, AIP).
• The first with 400 Scopus-indexed publications.
• The first with participation from all Iraqi universities.
• The first featuring five keynote speakers, including three international experts.

He credited this success to the support of HE Minister Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, the University President, local government officials, and the organizing committees.

The event included specialized sessions, keynote speeches from partner universities, a documentary screening, and extensive media coverage by the university’s press team.
